March 18, 2025 – ARCFOX has officially launched the updated Alpha S5 in the Chinese market. The new model line consists of seven trim levels with price tags ranging from 104,800 to 173,800 yuan. As a mid-cycle refresh, the Alpha S5 gains both battery electric (BEV) and extended-range electric (EREV) powertrains, catering to a wider range of consumers. The new model also brings subtle design tweaks, additional color options, and enhanced technology features.
Alpha S5 Exterior Design: Subtle Updates and New Colors
The overall shape carries over from the previous model, but fine details have been revised. The front fascia retains the closed grille, slim headlights, and C-shaped air intakes that emphasize a sporty character. Seven exterior colors are available, including three new shades: Phantom Green, Vanna Blue, and Lava Gray.
Moving to the side, the coupe-like silhouette and two-tone paint continue to dominate, now complemented by newly designed multi-spoke dual-tone wheels that enhance the dynamic stance. Thanks to a 66 mm increase in length, the Alpha S5 now measures 4,886 mm long, 1,930 mm wide, and 1,480 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. At the rear, the full-width light bar and illuminated brand logo add visual depth. Notably, the drag coefficient is as low as 0.1925 Cd.
Alpha S5 Interior Comfort and Technology
Inside, the wrap-around cockpit design remains largely familiar, featuring a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel and a large floating central screen. A new zero-gravity passenger seat with an integrated leg rest is available, along with an industry-first infrared physiotherapy function for the front passenger. Front seats also offer ventilation, heating, and massage functions. The cabin exudes a high-tech ambiance while prioritizing passenger well-being.
Advanced Driver Assistance and Smart Cockpit
The new Alpha S5 debuts the Yuanjing intelligent driver assistance system, powered by a Snapdragon 8775 automotive-grade chip that unifies infotainment and ADAS functions. The hardware suite includes 15 radar sensors and seven high-definition cameras, enabling highway and city navigation assist. Parking assistance covers nine scenarios, including parallel, perpendicular, and diagonal parking, making maneuvers effortless in various environments.
Powertrain: BEV and EREV Options with CATL Batteries
Powertrain choices consist of pure electric and extended-range electric versions, both equipped with CATL batteries as standard. The BEV model achieves a maximum range of 720 km on the CLTC cycle, while the EREV version pushes the combined range to 1,450 km. The range-extender employs BAIC’s Shenjing e-power system, delivering 6.5 seconds for 0-100 km/h with a full battery and 7.5 seconds when the battery is depleted. The engine boasts a thermal efficiency of 43%, converting one liter of fuel into 3.5 kWh of electricity.
Charging Performance and Powertrain Variants
For the BEV lineup, fast charging is a highlight. A 15-minute charge can add up to 540 km of range, and the 800V architecture with 5C ultra-fast charging enables a 30% to 80% charge in just 8.9 minutes. The top-spec Alpha S5 720 Yuanjing Shenxing Edition features a rear motor with 200 kW and 360 N·m, achieving 0-100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. The all-wheel-drive version combines dual motors for a total output of 390 kW and 690 N·m, delivering exhilarating performance, though its acceleration figure has not been disclosed.
