BAIC Xingtan 5X Pre-Sale Opens in China: EV and PHEV Versions Explained
China pre-sale news · Checked 22 October 2026

BAIC’s Beijing Off-Road division opened Chinese pre-orders for the Xingtan 5X on 21 October. The headline is a RMB 139,900 starting price, but the more useful detail for an overseas buyer is how sharply the seven announced versions divide into three different sourcing cases: a rear-drive battery EV, a long-electric-range two-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid, and a higher-performance four-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid.

What changed: the new Xingtan brand now has its first priced product in China. Three EV and four PHEV versions entered pre-sale at RMB 139,900–184,900. This is a Chinese domestic pre-sale, not confirmation of export allocation, destination homologation, right-hand drive or overseas warranty coverage.

The Pre-Sale Line-Up Is Broader Than the Starting Price Suggests

BAIC announced three battery-electric versions, all rated at 625 km CLTC, and four plug-in hybrids split between 310 km two-wheel-drive and 285 km four-wheel-drive configurations. The Chinese names below have been translated descriptively; they are not confirmed overseas trim names.

EV, Two-Wheel-Drive PHEV or Four-Wheel-Drive PHEV?

Battery EV

The 81.9 kWh version uses a 227 kW rear motor and an 800-volt platform. BAIC quotes 625 km CLTC and a 30–80% DC charge in 14.5 minutes under the specified charging conditions. Its case depends on compatible charging hardware, connector standard and trained high-voltage service support at the destination.

Two-Wheel-Drive PHEV

A 1.5-litre turbo engine, 200 kW drive motor and 50.4 kWh battery create a large electric buffer without removing the petrol fallback. BAIC quotes 310 km CLTC electric range and 232 km under WLTC. Buyers should keep those two test cycles separate in advertising.

Four-Wheel-Drive PHEV

The dual-motor version is rated at 400 kW combined and 4.3 seconds from 0–100 km/h. It also receives the hardware most relevant to poor-road use, including a rear differential lock. The trade-off is a more complex certification and service file than either the rear-drive EV or two-wheel-drive PHEV.

BAIC has also filed a 2.0-litre turbo petrol version, but it was not included in the seven-version pre-sale announcement. Treating that engine as currently priced or orderable would put an unconfirmed variant into a commercial quotation.

Its Commercial Case Is Space, Not Seven-Seat Capacity

The Xingtan 5X measures 4,865 mm long, 2,000 mm wide and 1,910 mm high, with a 2,875 mm wheelbase. An external rear storage module extends the quoted length to 5,005 mm. Despite that footprint, this is a five-seat SUV. Dealers comparing it with three-row models should not assume the square body hides a third row.

With the rear seating area folded, BAIC quotes up to 2,231 litres of cargo space. The EV adds a washable 96-litre front compartment. Those details give the model a clearer use case for family luggage, outdoor equipment and mixed passenger-cargo duty than for shuttle operators paid by the occupied seat.

Published capability figures include 228 mm of ground clearance and a claimed 600 mm wading depth. Four-wheel-drive versions add multiple terrain modes, crawl control and a rear locking differential. These figures are useful for initial screening, but they do not replace a review of tyre specification, underbody protection, operating limits and the owner’s manual for the exact version.

Huawei Hardware Does Not Guarantee Overseas Functionality

Selected versions use Huawei Qiankun ADS 5 Pro with an in-cabin solid-state lidar, cameras, 4D millimetre-wave radar and ultrasonic sensors. In China, the equipment package is one of the main reasons to move above the base versions.

For an importer, the hardware list is only the first question. Navigation data, mobile connectivity, user accounts, language support, subscriptions, OTA access and assisted-driving functions can depend on the market and the vehicle’s software region. A supplier should demonstrate the actual car’s menus and active functions before the buyer pays a deposit. Computing hardware should never be presented as proof that every China-market feature will operate abroad.

What the Pre-Sale Does Not Yet Confirm

The wording around a “global” model does not establish a sales channel in every country. As of 22 October 2026, the verified event is a Chinese pre-sale. Public information does not yet provide a country-by-country export timetable, confirmed right-hand-drive derivative, destination approval list or overseas warranty policy for these seven China-market versions.

That distinction matters because a vehicle can be physically sourced in China while still being unsuitable for registration elsewhere. Lights, glass markings, charging inlet, radio equipment, emissions data for the PHEV, software region and supporting certificates all need to match the destination’s rules. Buyers looking at current new-car sourcing options from China should approve the exact configuration file, not the model name alone.

Five Items to Request Before Treating the Xingtan 5X as Export Stock

  1. Exact version and production status. Match the Chinese trim name, powertrain, drive layout, battery and option codes to the supplier’s quotation. A pre-sale reservation is not the same as a completed vehicle with an assigned VIN.
  2. VIN-level evidence. Request the nameplate, VIN, production date, odometer, exterior walk-around and cabin video. Confirm whether the vehicle is factory-new, dealer-registered or previously titled in China.
  3. Charging and electrical specification. For the EV and PHEV, verify the inlet standard, AC and DC limits, portable charging equipment, 12-volt system and whether local public chargers can support the car without an unsafe adapter chain.
  4. Software and driver-assistance demonstration. Check interface languages, navigation, connectivity, app binding, OTA access and all paid or region-dependent functions on the exact vehicle.
  5. Destination approval review. Send the technical file to the local broker or certification body before shipment. The PHEV also requires engine and emissions evidence that does not apply to a battery-only vehicle.

The pre-sale makes the Xingtan 5X worth monitoring: it combines a large five-seat body with a relatively low China-market entry price and a genuine choice between EV and PHEV. It is not yet a reason to skip specification control. For an overseas dealer, the sensible next step is to identify the powertrain that fits local infrastructure, then request evidence for one exact car.

Request an Exact-Version Sourcing Check

Send us your destination country, preferred powertrain, drive layout and order quantity. We can check China-side sourcing status, document the offered vehicle and build an FOB or CIF quotation for your broker to review. Destination certification, tax and registration remain subject to local confirmation.
